Carol Gregorio, PhD is a seasoned leader and proven innovator within health sciences education and research. She currently serves as Assistant Vice Provost of Global Health Sciences and Interim Director of UArizona Health Sciences International, where she leads a team of interdisciplinary collaborators working to develop and provide global access to a growing number of academic programs, many focused on interprofessional education and training. Dr. Gregorio also holds multiple leadership roles within the College of Medicine – Tucson, including heading the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, serving as the co-director of the Sarver Heart Center, and the director of the Molecular Cardiovascular Research Program. She is also the recipient of the Czarina M. & Humberto S. Lopez Endowed Chair for Excellence in Cardiovascular Research.
A New York native, Dr. Gregorio obtained her bachelor and master's degrees from SUNY Buffalo, and her PhD from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She later completed her postdoctoral training at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California before joining the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson faculty in 1996. As a basic/translational scientist she leads an NIH funded team of laboratory researchers that all share a special research interest in the contractile proteins of heart muscle in health and human disease.
